In Mozambique, it’s very usual to find women with the whole world on their heads. Wood, flour bags, gas bottles, or even fish baskets, everything is transported without any apparent effort on their heads. More than a tradition, it’s an african cultural habit. Balance but does not fall; nothing is lost. Some say that women do so to get hands free and can do other things besides carrying what they need. Others say it is because the weight of the head gives the feeling of being lighter, more evenly distributed to load. If you ask women, they laugh and do not know how to explain. They never thought of doing different.
