The number of illegal clam fisherman in Tejo river keeps rising. They’re more than two hundred already. After all, one day at the river can give them up to 120 euros. They’re all afraid to be photographed, they all avoid talking. On one side, hundreds of fisherman. On the other, the Naval Police. An endless war, fed by an immense activity which is threatening public health, due to the water’s high levels of toxicity in Tejo river. But, even with the tight control by the police, those who collect the clams say “it is worth taking the chance”.
